Hello all you wonderful NEROtics!  *smile*

It’s that time again…  Bags are packed, blankets ready to go, heaters pulled out of storage and wood bundled and ready for those cold campground nights.  You’ve pre-regged and even sent in your production requirements.  You are all good to go and ready to roll!  Yay for you!!!  *grin*

But…  before you think you are all set we here on the Plot Team would find it a HUGE favor if you could, maybe, do the following for us:

1.  If you have odd or unique Craftsman skills (Fortuneteller/Seer, etc) that the Plot Team can “use” let us know!  This way we can have cool stuff waiting for you instead of having to hunt you down at the event to ask!!!

2.  If you have a Transform, whether out of chapter or LCO, please let us know and send us the stats along with any special conditions for “popping”, etc.  While these stats and this information may have been available at one time it is not in the hands of the current Plot Team and, in an effort to make sure everyone has fun we thought that compiling a listing of this type would make it easier to run more “tailored” plot and stat weekends and modules more appropriately.

3.  Anything else you can think of!  Our job is to make the best game possible for ALL players.  The best way to do that is to have YOUR input!

The email address to send this information to is plot@nerohartford.com and we DO read everything!  *grin*

I now return you to your regularly scheduled insanity!

NERO Hartford’s 2011 Season Closer, Chapter 4 will be held on October 28-30, 2011.

Nero Hartford Event Fees [with NPC shift]
The “Pre-registration and Pre-pay” special prices (via Paypal)* deadline is 7 days before each event:

•          1-day: $40.00

•          2-day: $70.00 [Standard Weekend]

After that, the prices for “At-the-Door/Week-of” will be as follows:

•          2-day: $80.00 [Standard weekend]

These rates are per person (if you pre-register at least 24hrs before the event and pre-pay through Paypal), and the “At-the-Door/Week-of” rates (without any pre-registration) will be the same, but must be made in cash only when you pay at Check-In.

We will not accept checks or credit cards at the door.

Remember NPCs attend for free and eat for free.

—————————————————————————————————————————

*Pre-Registration and Pre-Pay: You MUST make payment within 7 days of the event for which you are registering in order to guarantee your spot and the reduced rate. Pre-Registration and Pre-Pay rate means payment has been received by NERO® Hartford at least seven days prior to the start date of the event. If you pre-register, we will guarantee you a bed.

Also, while NPCs attend for free, you must be a current member of a NERO Chapter and have your logistics person send us your card for record-keeping purposes.

If you are new to NERO or your membership has expired, you will need to purchase a membership prior to playing. Membership rates and packages can be found here

In the event that we reach maximum camp capacity, or we do not get enough NPC pre-registrations to maintain a reasonable NPC/PC ratio, we will not be able to allow unpaid or walk-in (at the door) PC registrations.

If necessary, we are prepared to establish a waitlist, but the best way to make sure you get a bed for the event is to pre-register and pre-pay.

Please remember that all meals are included in the event fee, but we cannot be sure we will have enough food for everyone unless all PCs, NPCs and Staff pre-reg for the event. If you have any special dietary requirements or allergies, please email or chef at tavern@nerohartford.comto let Chef Sarah know, so she can accommodate your needs.

We look forward to seeing you there.

“Hunting? Really?”

“Yes, really every bit of power you collect will strengthen us for the Barrow just as the Kaurathi heroes advised.”

“So?”

“That will give us enough to open the great rift as the season turns. Then all you desires will be in reach. While the rest gibber and scream you can take all the gold all the slaves all revenge you want.”

“Hail Balor!”

“He shall overturn all Rule save his.”

“Mommy where’d daddy go?”

“Hush dear, daddy got upset and said something bad about the King so the guards took him away.”

“Will da guard bring him back?”

“No dear, they gave him to the men from under the mountains. They took him away with them.”

“But mommy when will da men from under da mountain being daddy back?”

“Hush dear. Daddy was bad so it’s GOOD that they took him away. Just say your prayers that the GOOD king doesn’t let the men from under the mountains take us away.”

“But mommy….”

“HUSH darling. Don’t ever mention Daddy again or they will come for us.”

12 grey lords sealed in stone,
Doom, and gloom, and one is gone.

11 grey lord yet sealed in loam,
A fool frees one, death comes home.

10 grey lords locked from the light,
Yet power tempts the good from right.

9 grey lords wait for a key,
Drain the void and one walks free.

8 grey lords lurking unseen,
Emerald ears their meaning glean.

7 grey lords bound to a rhyme,
Gaining power every time.

6 grey lords in secret tome,
Read that book and one has flown.

5 grey lords in shadows dance,
Desperate fight, one soul’s last chance.

4 grey lords awaiting dawn,
A hidden player moves a pawn.

3 grey lords hid in the sky,
To free the next three more must die.

2 grey lords hold all the power,
Death will be the bridal dower.

One grey lord awaiting doom,
Weaving fates upon a loom.

No Grey lord bound far away,
Now the bill is yours to pay.

Notes from a wandering reporter…

Hello readers! I’ve seen some exciting things across the land in recent months, some which may be cause to worry, while others to rejoice!

First the creatures now known as the “Jaegers”, the Pantherghast-like creatures, which began a reign of terror for Gypsies and their “didikai” a few months ago, have begun exhibiting signs of, well, for lack of a better phrase, “breaking down”. It started with what can be assumed to be the weaker ones simply, well, imploding a little over a month ago. There are not many left now who have not reached their implosion point, but on the scary side of that bit of news, dear readers, is the fact that the ones left seem to be the strongest of the Jaegers. We can all be thankful, at least, that while similar to the fearsome Pantherghasts, they are overall a much weaker creature, comparatively.

This does beg the question, however, of where the mad man known as Balthazar has disappeared to. After making such a fearsome splash, with public appearances bringing horror and fear to many, he seems to have simply disappeared. While many seem to feel this is a good thing, and others fear that he is off plotting and planning yet more horrors for the Kaurathi people, this reporter fears even more that something or someone may have annihilated this entity for us! Why fear, and not be thankful you ask, faithful readers? Well, if who, or whatever, it was took down something as horrendous as Balthazar without there being pitched warfare, then I fear that entity even more!

Although, speaking of Balthazar, lovely readers, does bring me to the next bit of news, the “Founts” he created through his horrifying brand of mixed magic. Observing one from a (hopefully!) safe distance, I have been extremely disturbed to note that they are shrinking and yet also poisoning the land around them even more, somehow, through this shrinkage. It is as if something is sucking them away, somehow, and their poisons are becoming more concentrated. Wildlife and surrounding plants are being tainted by these founts at a horrendous rate, so beware those necromantic squirrels out there! Two founts have completely disappeared, in fact, which constitutes the good news. The bad news accompanying that, is that they left craters of tainted and poisoned earth and water supplies behind, which continue to spread to the wildlife in the areas. Scholars are performing various formal magics to cleanse the land and water, but it is a slow process and we can only hope that those areas are completely cleansed by spring’s new growing and birthing season!

On to some fun news, for those interested in the doings of the Ffolke hereabouts! It seems they are gearing up for the final rounds in their “Fae Champion” competition! This reporter even got to exchange a few words with one of the representatives, who commented, “Yes, the betting is heating up and the last stretch is finally on! Of course, the Red Caps hold the bets but the Huntmaster is actually the one laying odds on which unlikely – or likely! – people will hold these titles in the end!” I have been told that announcements would be made soon after the end of the upcoming Tourney in Celtios, so you really do not want to miss a moment of the excitement!

Until next time, dear readers, travel safe in these unsafe times!

Hear ye! Hear ye!

The High King of the Nine Kingdoms of Karauth, the First of his name, High King Bulzaric Kaurathel is declaring the announcement a Grand Tournament in honor of the change of season and the elevation of Skald Alric Stark to the position of High Lord Magistrate.

The Tournament shall take place on 29 Syyskuu, 1116 K.H. (29 October, 611 E.R.). Starting at 2pm, the Grand Melee will commence. During the Melee combatants will fight until only one remains. Those who fall will be rifted by formal magics to the Healers Guild where Royal Healers will attend to their wounds. Once a single combatant is left, they will be declared a champion and be excused from the next round. Once five champions have been determined they will hold a final melee to determine the melee champion. The winner shall receive 100 Gold.

The second tournament is the tournament of skill. Two champions shall be chosen among those who enter the Tournament. The other participants shall then have their chance to challenge the champions. Blunted tourney weapons of the combatant’s choice shall be provided to each participant. As this is a tourney of skill the strength of the sword arm shall not come into effect. Rather a blow that lands on an arm will render that arm not able to be used. A blow to the leg will render the leg unable to be used. A blow to the torso shall be considered a win for the opponent. Once the champion is challenged they will either win, remaining champion, or be replaced by the challenger. The champion shall present a sigil to be displayed for challengers to present their challenge to. This can be in the form of a banner, tabard, shield or other such device. This will continue until each participant has been defeated twice. Once only two champions remain they shall battle until the Tournament Champion is crowned. The winner shall receive a magic weapon crafted by the Royal Weaponsmiths and Mages after consulting the winner. In addition the winner is given the responsibility of naming the Queen (or King) of the Turning Leaves. This honor shall be presented to the person at the gathering the champions feels best reflects the beauty of the season.

All who wish to participate will pay the entrance sum of 5 gold. In addition on the eve before the Tournament there shall be two favors hidden amongst the woods of the Gate Town that will admit the participant free of charge. In addition if a Noble grants their favor to a participant, the charge will be waived.

Note that that all players are encouraged to send us plot submissions at any time, free of cost.

Plot submissions help us to track what you’re interested in as a player character, and assist us in attempting to provide the best LARP experience that we can for you the player. Plot submissions can be sent to NERO Hartford Plot at any time. The ultimate goal is to for our players to feel a deeper involvement in the game, and plot submissions of any kind are one way to accomplish that goal.

Just to be clear, we’ll detail the various sorts of plot submissions available to our players. Hopefully this will make the process clear, and more accessible to players new and old alike.

  • · Standard (Unpaid) Plot Submission:
This type of submission covers anything and everything you may want to look into, or investigate, or accomplish within the Duchy of Ravenholt between events. This plot submission can be of any length and touch on any number of topics or points of interest. There is no limit on the number of unpaid plot submissions that we will accept per month.
  • · Paid Plot Submissions:
A paid plot submission, unlike a standard plot submission, may cover only a single topic of interest, or investigation, within the Kingdom of Kaurath.
The cost of this sort of submission is $20 and it includes the application of one blanket to the related character. Players are currently restricted to earning 4 paid plot submission blankets per month per character.
  1. Short Paid Plot Submission – players may submit a write-up that covers one in-game investigation at a cost of $20.  One blanket will be applied to the designated character for their actions. A great way to earn additional XP
  2. Long Paid Plot Submission – players may submit a write-up that covers up to two in-game investigations at a cost of $30.  Two blankets will be applied to the designated character for their actions. A great way to earn additional XP.

Staff response to plot submissions of all types:
Players should expect to get confirmation that we’ve received their submission, but should also be patient, and realistic in terms of their expectations when it comes to receiving a deeper or more meaningful response from our committee. Trust that your interest and effort will not be forgotten.
There are many types of responses that you might receive from Plot: you might receive a reply between events outlining the response or consequences of your line of inquiry; there could be activities that involve the character and take place at a future event, though not necessarily the very next one; or you might receive no formal response, which could indicate that the investigation yielded no information (a useful fact, in and of itself).

The NERO Hartford Staff

Please note that NERO Hartford’s September 9-11, 2011 event is our first event under 9th Edition NERO RuleBook.

The 9th Edition NERO RuleBook can be downloaded and ordered here

There is a handy changelog here for those who are interested.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind both players and staff about various policies and procedures here at NERO Kaurath.

Plot Submissions:

The Plot Team here at NERO Kaurath is always happy to receive PC plot submissions, whether paid or unpaid. We like to know what our players are trying to accomplish between games and throughout the “off season” so we can work towards making the game better for all involved. All plot submissions will be responded to in one way or another. Some responses will be given verbally or in writing, while others may garner some type of In Game action or reaction at an upcoming event instead.

This goes for both Paid and Unpaid plot submissions alike, with the difference between the two being whether experience is received or not.

Any plot submission requiring a response prior to an event must be made at least two weeks before the event so the Plot Team has time to review it and formulate an appropriate response. If not received in time any response will not happen until at least two weeks after the event.

Transforms:

Any new, upgraded or adjusted Transform received at another NERO chapter must be submitted to plot at least two weeks prior to an event for approval. Not all transforms are accepted in Kaurath as our “world” contains some marked differences from other chapters of NERO. Additionally, some transforms may be unbalancing to our chapter as a whole and therefore not allowed. If your transform is denied, it will be considered “suppressed” (non functional but still existing for identification purposes) while within our borders.

Exceptions may be made if another chapter’s event runs less than two weeks prior to an event of ours, however the transform information must be submitted as soon as possible afterwards for review. If it is not received by the Tuesday just before an event it will be considered suppressed until it can be reviewed prior to the next event.

Guest and Cross-Chapter Plot:

Any and all Guest or Cross-Chapter plot another chapter or non-plot staff member wishes to run while at Kaurath must be submitted for approval at least two weeks prior to an event. This is to insure that there are no conflicts with any other plotlines being run at Kaurath and that module space and any other necessary resources can be allocated as needed.

The Kaurath plot team is not currently running or sanctioning the running of any cross chapter plot from our chapter. If we plan on any cross chapter plot visits, we will send a submission for approval at least two weeks in advance to the chapter we wish to “visit”. Currently, the only people eligible to run official cross chapter plot (on our end) are James, Nia and myself.

If someone from another chapter or one of our players decides, for whatever reason, they are going to run Kaurathi plot at their event please note that, unless James, Nia or myself are there and actually run it, it is unsanctioned and illegal plot! We currently do not have any Plot Adjuncts or Core NPCs with the authority to run anything outside of our own chapter. No sanctioned cross chapter plot has occurred between the last Kaurath event and this upcoming one. If you have gone on any Kaurathi modules at another chapter’s event they were not legitimate adventures and constitute nothing more than a bad dream for In Game purposes!

If there are any questions, please contact the Plot Team in it’s entirety at plot@nerohartford.com or me, personally, at gypsysprite@me.com or gccgraphics@gmail.com and I will reply as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone, and have a great day!

Selina ~ Plot Coordinator

Dear friends of NERO Hartford,

You have all been loyal followers of and contributors to the ongoing saga of Kaurath, NERO Hartford’s Tyrran Campaign.

Of late we have had a few shake-ups and shake-outs, but you have stood by us through and through.

If you can pre-reg here and pre-pay via Paypal to event_registration@nerohartford.com by October 7, 2011,

  • PCing only: $65 normally $82.00 [Standard Weekend Rate] or $92.00 [Standard Weekend Rate “Week of/at-the-door”]
  • PCing [with NPC shift]: $55 normally $70.00 [Standard Weekend Rate] or $80.00 [Standard Weekend Rate “Week of/at-the-door”]

After that, our regular rates will go into effect.

If our numbers should increase and remain higher, we will be able to offer lower rates on a regular basis in the future.
